About

Questions that somebody, some day, might bother to ask…

  • Who are you?
    • My name is Jeffrey Martin. You can call me Jeff…believe me, there are worse nicknames in my history that you could call me. By day, I’m a mild-mannered writer for the public relations office at a high-profile university. By night, I’m a crime figher…I mean…fan of movies, college basketball and Philadelphia sports, and good beer.
  • What’s a moviehawk, anyway?
    • The name was suggested by a friend of mine when I wanted to move this site from LiveJournal to my own host. Apropos of my dual passions for film and Saint Joseph’s basketball, the name also suggests the ridiculous amount of time I spend in the movie theatre.
  • Why should I care about what you’re writing here?
    • Because I’m right all the time. Besides, why should you care what Roger Ebert has to say about movies, or what Bill Simmons has to say about what he writes about before it degenerates into a discussion about the Red Sox? It’s opinions, not money or love, that make the world go ’round. And unsolicited opinions are the best kind.
  • Is this site going to be all about movies?
    • Of course not. This is online journalism…there’s no way you can stick to one subject. You’ll see music reviews, television discussion (including my famed recaps of The Amazing Race), and sports talk here, along with whatever else I deem important enough to risk carpal tunnel to write about. Pop culture is a big world, my friend. You can’t keep up unless you’re willing to bounce around.
  • How can I argue with what you say?
    • Comments are always a good idea. You can also e-mail me at jeff@moviehawk.net, but then the whole world won’t get to see how wrong you are.
  • What are your favorite movies/albums/shows?
    • Dude, that changes on a daily basis. That’s why I write almost every day.
  • Who are your influences?
    • Bill Simmons, the writers at Television Without Pity, Nick Hornby, Cap’n Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters.

If you’re still reading this, I’m impressed, but unless you want to ask me more questions, I suggest you go a-reading. Click on “Home” at the top of the page to get back to the main page, on “Movies 2006″ to see the full list of films I’ve seen so far this year, or “Professional Pursuits” to read what I’ve written that someone has been foolish enough to publish.
